# Foundry Blackhole backend — the NoC multicast primitive.
#
# Two programs, deliberately split by whether they need silicon:
#
# test_multicast_rectangle OFF HARDWARE. The rectangle arithmetic and every refusal.
# Builds and runs on the Mac while somebody else owns the card.
# test_relaunch_gate OFF HARDWARE. The verdict stage 3c's re-launch experiment
# reaches, one mutation per ground — including the three
# VACUITY grounds, which is what stops "the second launch was
# fine" from being a sentence the instrument could not have
# contradicted.
# test_multicast_bench ON CARD. The measurement: what a multicast costs against N
# cores each reading the same block from DRAM; and, under
# FT_TT_MULTICAST_EXPERIMENT, the two arms that ask whether the
# broadcast is the cause of the >4-destination wedge at all.
#
# make -f Makefile.multicast check # off-hardware only, no card needed
# make -f Makefile.multicast PHASE1B=1 all # both
#
# The on-card program needs the NoC fence open, so PHASE1B=1 is mandatory for it: without
# it every device call returns FT_TT_EPERM before touching the NoC, which is the whole
# point of the fence (spec §7.3 — a wrong coordinate hangs the chip).
#
# Run the on-card half through run_multicast_suite.sh, never directly: the suite's last
# rule is that the cores it used must be proven to still BOOT *and* still COMPUTE, and the
# COMPUTE half is `ft_tt_core probe`, a different program.
#
# ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# THE PROGRAM DIRECTORY — recorded here 2026-08-14, and BUILT before it was written down.
# ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# It lived only inside run_multicast_suite.sh's header. This is the ONE program directory
# in the tree that is NOT a build_tensix_program.sh output: the bench needs three
# unrelated kernels rather than a reader/compute/writer triad, so the three per-class
# builders are driven directly into one directory.
#
# The ctargs are DERIVED. multicast_bench_reader.c takes NO compile-time args at all —
# role, iterations, payload, the rectangle, both semaphores and both DRAM addresses are
# ft_tensix_runtime_arg(0..19) (:176-195), deliberately, because one binary playing all
# three roles is the measurement's method. noop_compute.c takes none either. So `CTARGS=0`
# on those two is a placeholder the builders require, not a contract; only the ncrisc
# writer's 16,2048 is real (vector_add_writer.c:45-46, cb_out / tile_bytes).
#
# On the card host, ABSOLUTE paths throughout (K=$PWD/../kernels, D=$PWD/../programs/multicast):
#
# CTARGS=0 NOC=0 ../build_tensix_dataflow_kernel.sh \
# $K/multicast_bench_reader.c brisc $D
# CTARGS=0 ../build_tensix_kernel.sh $K/noop_compute.c $D
# CTARGS=16,2048 NOC=1 ../build_tensix_dataflow_kernel.sh \
# $K/vector_add_writer.c ncrisc $D
#
# All three into the SAME directory and in that order, because each builder writes the
# firmware it linked against and they must agree; test_multicast_bench.c loads the mask
# 0x1d (DM0 + all three TRISCs, NOT DM1), so the ncrisc image is built for completeness
# and never loaded.
#
# `make red` rebuilds from scratch. Apple ships GNU make 3.81, whose one-second mtime
# granularity silently skips a rebuild of a source edited in the same second as its object,
# so an incremental mutation loop can be running the PREVIOUS binary (DEV_NOTES.md §3).
