# Foundry Blackhole backend — the COOPERATIVE matmul: one matmul across N Tensix cores.
#
# Two programs, deliberately split by whether they need silicon:
#
# test_cooperative_matmul_plan OFF HARDWARE. The work split, the refusals and the runtime
# arg blocks. Builds and runs on the Mac while somebody else
# owns the card.
# test_cooperative_matmul ON CARD. The measurement, and the byte comparison against
# the single-core result.
#
# make -f Makefile.cooperative check # off-hardware only, no card needed
# make -f Makefile.cooperative PHASE1B=1 all # both
#
# The on-card program needs the NoC fence open, so PHASE1B=1 is mandatory for it: without it
# every device call returns FT_TT_EPERM before touching the NoC, which is the whole point of
# the fence (spec §7.3 — a wrong coordinate hangs the chip).
#
# Run the on-card half through run_cooperative_matmul_suite.sh, never directly: the suite's
# last rule is that the cores it used must be proven to still BOOT *and* still COMPUTE, and the
# COMPUTE half is `ft_tt_core probe`, a different program.
#
# ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# THE PROGRAM DIRECTORY — recorded here 2026-08-14, and BUILT before it was written down.
# ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# It lived only inside run_cooperative_matmul_suite.sh's header, so this file named a suite
# without saying how to make the suite's input. The ctargs are DERIVED, not copied:
# cooperative_matmul_reader.c:92-95 declares ft_tensix_compile_time_arg(0..3) as CB_IN0 /
# CB_IN1 / IN0_TILE_BYTES / IN1_TILE_BYTES, and the host driver pins those CB indices at
# ft_tt_op_matmul_cooperative.c:20-22 (0, 1, 16). The compute and writer thirds are the
# SHIPPED matmul_compute.c and vector_add_writer.c unchanged — a cooperating matmul is a
# reader-side and host-side change — so their ctargs are Makefile.ops's matmul ones.
#
# On the card host, ABSOLUTE paths throughout (K=$PWD/../kernels):
#
# RELOCATE_KERNEL_TEXT=1 \
# READER_CTARGS=0,1,2048,2048 COMPUTE_CTARGS=0,1,16 WRITER_CTARGS=16,2048 \
# CB_TABLE=$K/cb_tables/matmul_float16b.cbtable \
# ../build_tensix_program.sh $K/cooperative_matmul_reader.c $K/matmul_compute.c \
# $K/vector_add_writer.c $PWD/../programs/cooperative
#
# CB_TABLE is not optional and the suite script's copy of this recipe omits it. Without a
# table the build falls back to the uniform-legacy descriptor set, which carries
# MATH_FIDELITY 4 by DEFAULT rather than by the choice matmul_float16b.cbtable records —
# and dst_accum_mode 0 instead of 1, a 35x accuracy difference for zero wall clock. A
# cooperative result compared against a single-core one built WITH the table would then
# differ for a reason that has nothing to do with cooperating.
#
# `make red` rebuilds from scratch. Apple ships GNU make 3.81, whose one-second mtime
# granularity silently skips a rebuild of a source edited in the same second as its object, so
# an incremental mutation loop can be running the PREVIOUS binary (DEV_NOTES.md §3).
